"Loose Ends"
https://www.depict.org/2014/loose-ends/?category_request=2014Why did I chose loose ends? Well to answer that is simple, it gets us (the viewer) to question exactly what the partner is asking to his colleague, they build up the scene with a bit of light comedy with the joking humor of the partner, and the slightly snarky response of the colleague.
The ending as well is not what we was expecting, we see the two men standing out in the field asking questions waiting for the "people" to show up, this makes us think they are waiting for a car to arrive, but in the end we are mislead from our expectations, where instead of it being a car instead the colleague pulls out a 9 mm pistol, we then see a bright light from a U.F.O and the "person" being too far gone and being shot.
This is why I liked it due to the twist at the end of the depict video, this is also seen at the end of the next depict review for webbed.
"Webbed"
https://www.depict.org/2014/webbed/?category_request=2014In this depict entry we see a young lad, (child) walking around a convenient store, dressed as his favorite superhero "spider-man". The young lad walks around pretending to shoot spider webs just the the Marvel/Sony spider-man does.
What makes this video even more great is the happy ending, the young lad walks around as no one responds to him pretending to shoot webs at the items, they just stand and stare at him, he finds a man picking up a box of cereal. When the boy pretends to shoot his webs the man drops the box with a shocked expression playing along with the boy, we see the happiness of the child as then the man revels his hidden identity the DC character "Superman".
This twist is something that people would have and would have not seen coming where some would think he is just playing along, but some others may think the man is infarct a superhero.
"Toasted"
https://www.depict.org/2019/toasted/?category_request=2019Now with this entry it gives us a new look at random, and the way we make toast, by showing an animation of a group of pyrotechnics inside a toaster. The one job these men hold is to toast the toast that is put in their place of work, hence the name toasted, but one curious worker gets an idea.
What this curious worker decides to do is turn his flamethrower on to the highest setting, and then firing a hole in the toast. This hole being his way out, they climb inside and escape when the toast rises out.
The reason this depict video caught my eye was due to the way it was seamlessly animated with no jump cuts and no stretching of the character between shots, and due to the way it got me and another friend who watched it to completely question how toasters work.
"You Died"
https://www.depict.org/2019/you-died/?category_request=2019Now yes this has a dark title referring to death, but the video and the animation of the comic like art style is what makes is look nice with the 50's advert style, the narration though is what to me adds the humor again with the 50's style.
The opening with the shout of "YOU DIED" to then repeat as it stated in the video "it is only you and this video for minutes and hours". This type of humor is one that I do find funny and still wish was around today, yes it is in black and white but to add colour would to me just ruin the way it is presented.
"Car Park"
https://www.depict.org/2014/carpark/?category_request=2014
How do I begin apart from by saying "oh the irony". This animation shows why you should never push your luck.
It starts with the man going to a car he presumes is his, in a car park, to find out that a dog is lurking in the car next to the one he is trying to enter. As the man gets the response from tormenting the dog he then sees the dog learn how to use the windows, and as soon as the man sees this he starts trying to stop the window to then resort to opening his car door... it is the reveled that he is in fact at the wrong car.
The man realizing that he is at the wrong car proceeds to smash the window of the car he thought was his, getting away from the dog that was opening the car window, as soon as the man drives off for then another dog to be revealed in the back of the car.
The only reason I picked this was by the irony and the twist towards the end.
